Parent & Adult Child Coaching
With Joelle Brant, CPLC
As an adult child myself, I understand how complicated these relationships can be.
As a first-generation Filipino American, I know how hard it can be to say no to your parents, set boundaries, or make choices they may not understand—even when you’re an adult.
Do you love your parents but find the relationship strained or complicated?
Does family pressure continue to affect your adult life or your relationship with your partner?
Are cultural or family expectations creating conflict with your parents?
Some clients carry guilt about wanting more distance from a difficult parent. Others still find themselves seeking their parents’ approval or worrying about disappointing them.
Maybe your parents cross boundaries, become too involved in your marriage, or leave you feeling responsible for keeping the peace.
You can love your parents and still need healthier boundaries. You can care about their feelings without making them responsible for your choices—or yourself responsible for theirs.
The hardest relationships to navigate are usually the longest relationships you’ve had.

How Parent & Adult Child Relationship Coaching With Me Works
The goal isn’t to change your parents. You probably can’t. Sorry.
It’s about understanding the relationship you have with them, getting clear on the relationship you want, recognizing what may be getting in the way, and exploring what you can do differently to build a healthier, more fulfilling relationship as an adult.
We’ll look at what was modeled for you growing up and how those patterns continue to show up in your relationship today. Then we’ll work on boundaries, communication, and new ways to respond when old dynamics come up.
Working with me is warm, direct, and practical. You’ll get clearer about what you want from the relationship, learn what to say when things get difficult, and build confidence in holding your boundaries.
-
We start with the what: what’s hurting right now, what keeps happening with your parents, and what you want from the relationship.
-
Then we look at the how. We connect what you learned growing up to the patterns you’re experiencing today and identify where you’re getting stuck.
-
Finally, we put new approaches into practice. You’ll work on boundaries, practice new ways of communicating, and learn how to respond differently when old patterns show up.
You Can Love Your Parents And Still Have Boundaries
You don’t have to choose between being a good son or daughter and taking care of yourself. Parent and adult child coaching works on how to say no, set limits, and handle the guilt and fear that come with expressing new boundaries.
After Working With Me, Clients Report:
Less guilt saying no
Feeling less reactive towards their parents
Greater understanding of family dynamics
Increased mutual respect
Stronger, healthier boundaries
A more mature parent & adult child relationship
Less reliance on parental approval
Breaking free from old family patterns
And the work affects more than just your relationship with parents. When you understand the patterns and learn how to respond differently, those changes carry into romantic relationships, friendships, and work.
“You don’t have to choose between loving your parents and taking care of yourself.”
About Joelle Brant
Hi, I’m Joelle Brant, CPLC.
I’m passionate about healthy relationships. I’ve spent much of my career helping adults work through emotional disconnection and find their way back to healthier ways of relating.
My approach is steady, compassionate, and active. We’ll look honestly at what's happening, understand the patterns connected to your past, and put practical boundaries and communication tools into practice.
Sometimes, you need to learn that it’s okay to say no, set a boundary, or make a different choice—even when it feels uncomfortable. The goal isn’t to tell you what your relationship with your parents should look like. It’s to help you understand what you want and need from that relationship, what’s getting in the way, and how you can begin creating something that feels healthier and more authentic for you as an adult.
Availability: I provide in-person coaching in Virginia Beach, and virtual coaching for clients nationwide.
